Cysteine modifications affect artemin thermostability differently. Bacterial protein extracts were resolved in SDS polyacrylamide gels and either stained with Coomassie blue (a) or transferred to nitrocellulose and probed with antibody to artemin followed by HRP-conjugated goat anti-rabbit IgG (b). Equivalent amounts of the same extracts were then heated, cooled on ice, and centrifuged. The resulting supernatants (c) and pellets (d) were electrophoresed in SDS polyacrylamide gels, transferred to nitrocellulose, and probed with antibody to artemin followed by HRP-conjugated goat anti-rabbit IgG.
