A model illustrating the role of p38MAPK in liver stress-induced insulin resistance. Stress-induced p38MAPK activation is upstream to ErbB receptors transactivation and leads to IRS-1 Ser phosphorylation and insulin signaling desensitization. Stress-induced IRS-1 Ser phosphorylation can be mediated by additional pathways that activate various IRS-1 kinases and may possibly be associated with intracellular ROS generation.
