Sources: Estimates for 1990–94 were compiled from Mahaini27 and WHO/UNICEF.28 Estimates for 1995–99 from Hill et al.29 Estimates for 1995 from WHO/UNICEF/UNFPA30 and Rahim et al.31 Estimates for 2000–04 from WHO32,33 and Mahaini.27 Estimates for 2005–2009 from WHO Regional Office for the Eastern European24,34 and Hill et al.29 Preference where available was given to WHO data for greater comparability. Where necessary for graphical clarification, a mean of values over a time period were provided for a country.
