The data are averages from at least three independent cultures, and all assays were performed in triplicate. The carbohydrate concentration in the growth medium was 0.5% (wt/vol). Superscript A, data statistically different from that in other sugars in the DL1 background, as verified by the Student t test (P < 0.01).
