Averages of the results obtained from uninfected tissues were normalized to 1, and the levels for individual mice, uninfected and infected, were adjusted accordingly. Averaged results are shown. Bars indicate the standard errors of the means. Numbers of mice used for COX-2 determinations were 7 (day 0), 3 (day 1), 3 (day 2), and 4 (day 3). Numbers of mice used for 3βHSD2 determinations were 10 (day 0), 4 (day 1), 4 (day 2), and 4 (day 3). Compared to results from uninfected samples (day 0), data from days 1 and 2 were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Data from day 3 were statistically significant for both 3βHSD2 (P = 0.0351) and COX-2 (P = 0.0025).
