Histological examination of the muscles, intestines, and spleen from EV71-infected mice either untreated or treated with anti-IL-6 antibodies postinfection. EV71 infection and anti-IL-6 antibody treatment were performed as described in the legend of Fig. 3. At day 10 postinfection, three mice per group were euthanized. Paraffin sections of the limb muscle, intestines, and spleen were stained by hematoxylin and eosin. The specimens shown are representatives of three mice in each group with similar histologies. Observations were made at magnifications of ×2.5 (A to D and M to P) and ×20 (E to H and I to L).
