Evolution of HVR1 and E1E2 quasispecies during long-term culture. (A) Huh7.5 cells were transfected with the quasispecies chimeras shown in Fig. 1A. The quasispecies viruses released into the medium at day 18 were sequenced and used to infect naïve Huh7.5 cells. This step was repeated at days 50 and 65, and the final sequences were obtained from the day-75 sample. Species A, B, D, and N were identified in the original inoculum, and the level of abundance of each is expressed as the percentage of viruses sequenced; species without a letter designation were not detected in the inoculum.
