Fetal pancreas tissues collected from sheep (top row) and human (bottom row) fetuses were immunostained for insulin (AMCA, blue), vimentin (Texas Red), and β-catenin (Cy2, green). The days (dGA) or weeks (wGA) of gestational age are indicated at the bottom of each image along with a scale bar that equals 25 microns. The white arrows identify solitary β-cells (open arrowhead) or β-cells clusters (closed arrowhead) located in the mesenchymal stroma independent from the ductal epithelium. The yellow arrows identify solitary β-cells (open arrowhead) or β-cells clusters (closed arrowhead) within the ductal epithelium.
