Figure 1

Liquefaction and ulcer lesions in rabbit skin induced by live BCG, M. smegmatis, and H37Ra. The rabbits were injected intradermally with 5 × 106 CFU of BCG, M. smegmatis, and H37Ra, respectively. About 42 days later, they were boosted with the same dose of same bacteria. The lesion liquefied or ulcerated at about 3–7 days after boosting. (A) M. smegmatis induced abscess; (B) H37Ra induced abscess; (C) BCG induced abscess; (D) Ulcerated and scabbed abscess caused by BCG.
