Glucose tolerance and plasma insulin. A: chow-fed and long-term HFD-fed neil1+/+ and neil1−/− animals were injected with 1 g glucose/kg body wt, and plasma glucose was measured at the indicated time points. Glucose clearance was significantly delayed in HFD-fed neil1−/− mice. B: plasma insulin was also measured before and 180 min after glucose injection. Plasma insulin was significantly higher in both chow-fed and HFD-fed neil1−/− mice 180 min after glucose injection relative to their respective neil1+/+ counterparts. Data are expressed as means ± SE of 5–7 animals/group. *P < 0.05 vs. neil1+/+.
