Average percentage of renal apoptotic cells/×20 frame in paraffin-embedded tissue sections from SC (n = 6) and UC (n = 6) kidneys from ANG II (5 ng·kg−1·min−1)+l-NAME (1.4 μg·kg−1·min−1)-infused rats and kidneys from saline-infused sham rats (n = 5). While the percentage of apoptotic cells was similarly elevated in both SC and UC kidneys compared with kidneys from sham rats, the level of apoptosis was modest and the difference did not reach statistical significance.
