Hypo-osmolar stress rapidly and transiently disrupts BBB monolayers. Confluent bEnd3 monolayers were exposed to continuous ISO or continuous HYPO, with or without 1 μM RR for 2 hours and paracellular permeability was measured. HYPO caused a rapid increase in [14C]sucrose permeability that was partially inhibited by co-treatment with RR. This increase from 5–15 min was gone after 30 min.
