Flow streamlines during diastole in (A) a patient with an AscAA and (B) and normal healthy volunteer. Helical flow (arrow) is present in the patient with AscAA (A) while in the normal healthy volunteer (B), no helical pattern is observed. In addition, the velocities in the AscAA patient are higher than in the normal healthy volunteer, corresponding to the observation of higher diastolic wall shear stress values in AscAA patients than in normal healthy volunteers.
