Trichrome stain of subendothelial myocardium adjacent to an organized thrombus, demonstrating isolated myocardiocytes in various degrees of degeneration with replacement by fibrous scarring and a small coronary artery with hyaline changes where collagen has replaced the media, a lesion known as hyaline arteriolosclerosis. Affected cells are isolated by intercellular edema and inflammatory infiltrates consisting of mononuclear inflammatory cells, occasional neutrophils, and cellular debris.
