LMAN ablation produced a significant postoperative shortening of syllable duration (n = 45, p < 0.01), but a significant postoperative lengthening of intersyllable duration (n = 35, p < 0.05). As a result of these contrasting effects, LMAN ablation did not have a significant effect on motif duration (n = 10). Control surgery did not produce a significant effect on syllable duration (n = 38), intersyllable duration (n = 30), or motif duration (n = 10).
