Formation of biofilm-like deposits in E. coli. Overnight cultures of AAEC185 derivatives were diluted 1 : 100 into LB medium supplemented with 10 μg chloramphenicol ml−1 and 100 μM IPTG in polystyrene culture plates and incubated for 24 h at 28 °C (grey bars) or 37 °C (black bars). Plates were washed three times and attached bacteria were stained with 0.01 % crystal violet. After three washes, crystal violet stain was solubilized with an 80 % ethanol/20 % acetone mixture and optical density was recorded at 595 nm and normalized for bacterial growth (Methods). Results are the means±sd of three independents experiments with at least duplicate assays from each experiment. *P<0.05; **P<0.005; ***P<0.00005.
