Table 2.

Cellular Distribution of Oncostatin M In Bone Marrow Sections in Mastocytosis and Controls

Cell type Normal BM ISM MCL SM-AHNMD
Megakaryocytes ++ ++ ++ ++
Myeloid progenitors + + + +
Neutrophil granulocytes
Eosinophil granulocytes
Erythroid progenitors
Mast cells ND + + +
Endothelial cells + + + +
Endosteal cells + + + +

BM, bone marrow; ISM, indolent systemic mastocytosis; MCL, mast cell leukemia; ND, no data; SM-AHNMD, systemic mastocytosis with associated clonal hematologic non-mast cell lineage disease; −, negative; +, positive; ++, strongly reactive.

Bone marrow sections were stained with an antibody against oncostatin M as described under Materials and Methods.

Only a few diffusely spread mast cells were found in normal bone marrow.
