Table 2.
Cellular Distribution of Oncostatin M In Bone Marrow Sections in Mastocytosis and Controls
Cell type | Normal BM | ISM | MCL | SM-AHNMD |
---|---|---|---|---|
Megakaryocytes | ++ | ++ | ++ | ++ |
Myeloid progenitors | + | + | + | + |
Neutrophil granulocytes | − | − | − | − |
Eosinophil granulocytes | − | − | − | − |
Erythroid progenitors | − | − | − | − |
Mast cells | ND⁎ | + | + | + |
Endothelial cells | + | + | + | + |
Endosteal cells | + | + | + | + |
BM, bone marrow; ISM, indolent systemic mastocytosis; MCL, mast cell leukemia; ND, no data; SM-AHNMD, systemic mastocytosis with associated clonal hematologic non-mast cell lineage disease; −, negative; +, positive; ++, strongly reactive.
Bone marrow sections were stained with an antibody against oncostatin M as described under Materials and Methods.
Only a few diffusely spread mast cells were found in normal bone marrow.
