Model of evolutionary history of Arxes (adipocyte-related X-chromosome expressed sequences) loci. Schematic of the ‘phylogeny’ of the Arxes genes based on bioinformatic analyses. Only one Arxes-like gene can be found on the rabbit x-chromosome while mouse and rat contain two paralog regions adjacent to each other on the x-chromosome. Arxes genes exhibit intact open reading frames. Target site duplication (TSD) sequences are given for mouse. A paralog stretch longer than the retrotransposed sequence (Arxes CDS including ∼800 bp upstream and 50 bp downstream) suggests a segmental duplication event.
