Lysates from articular chondrocytes of 6-, 21- and 30-month-old rats were used in kinase assays and quantified radioactivity determined using a β-counter. CK2 activity in the articular chondrocytes of 21- and 30-month-old rats was significantly decreased by 30% and 40%, respectively, compared to their 6-month-old counterparts (** P<0.01).
