PC-3 human prostate cancer cells were treated with adipogenic differentiation medium. A, the treated PC-3 cells were assessed for adipogenic differentiation weekly by Oil Red O staining. All microphotographs are at 100× magnification. B, RT-PCR was used to assess expression of adipocyte-specific marker genes in the treated PC-3 cells. Total RNA samples from treated cells at different time points (days) were used as templates. λHindIII/ΦX174HaeIII was used as a DNA marker (M). In these studies, the results are representative of three separate experiments. Similar results were obtained when PC-3M cells were studied.
