Double-blind, controlled clinical trial. After a baseline complete dental prophylaxis, 124 healthy adults used the mouthrinse as a supplement to regular oral hygiene for 6 months. Both Listerine and Peridex significantly inhibited development of plaque by 36.1% and 50.3%, respectively, and the development of gingivitis by 35.9% and 3.0.5% respectively, compared to placebo.
