Facility score calculated as sum individual scores for each of the 12 items, whereby if a center met the criterion it was assigned a one for that item, and zero otherwise. Higher facilities scores are indicative of more physical-activity-promoting facilities.

*

At least one third of the area is covered by a hard surface including rubberized surface, asphalt or blacktop, or concrete.

§

Criterion was met if center reported any of the following: wheelchair access to playground, playground surface accommodates wheelchair or other special needs equipment (e.g. blacktop, happy landing), or playground contains special equipment designed or to accommodate children in wheelchair (e.g. elevated sandbox, ramps).
