Table 3.
Comparison of MICs obtained by a turbidity assay in which increasing concentrations of peptides were incubated with each microorganism for 24 ha
| Peptide | MIC (μg/ml) (mean ± SD) |
|||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| E. coli | S. enterica serovar Enteritidis | P. aeruginosa | S. aureus | MRSA | C. albicans | |
| Pep-1 | ≫500 ± 10 | ≤500 ± 10 | ≤500 ± 10 | >1,000 | ≫500 ± 10 | >1,000 |
| MA-d | >1,000 | >1,000 | >1,000 | >1,000 | >1,000 | >1,000 |
| MAw-1 | >1,000 | ≤100 ± 10 | ≤100 ± 20 | ≤100 ± 20 | ≤100 ± 10 | ≤100 ± 20 |
| MAw-2 | ≤530 ± 20 | ≤530 ± 20 | ≤530 ± 20 | ≤530 ± 20 | >1,000 | ≤5.8 ± 0.3 |
| MAw-3 | ≤74 ± 1 | ≤74 ± 1 | ≤74 ± 2 | ≤74 ± 3 | >1,000 | ≤7.4 ± 0.1 |
The MIC was defined as the concentration resulting in ≥85% lysis compared to that in control cultures. Pep-1 showed minimal activity against E. coli and MRSA.
