Mitogenicity of the B. bacilliformis culture supernatant. HUVECS grown in M199-FCS (20% vol/vol) medium containing equal volumes (45 μl) of a filter-sterile supernatant from a B. bacilliformis or E. coli DH5α culture (OD₆₀₀ = 1.0 for both) were assayed for HUVEC numbers at 96 h by using an acid phophatase assay. HUVECs grown in M199-FCS (20% vol/vol) medium alone (none), in tissue culture medium containing 45 μl of sterile bacterial culture medium (Bact medium), or with heated B. bacilliformis (B.b.) or E. coli (E.c.) bacterial culture supernatants (Sup; 100°C for 7 min) were also conducted. Data represent the average of three experiments ± standard error.
