^aMice (eight or nine mice per group) were infected with 2 × 10⁴ CFU of E. coli i.p. and sacrificed after 4 and 16 h. The LBP concentrations in PLF and plasma were measured with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Samples of uninfected mice served as controls. The data are means ± standard errors of the means.
