Temporal expression of Na+, K+-ATPase α1 and β3 subunits in X. tropicalis embryos during development. Quantitative RT-PCR shows that β3 mRNA transcript levels are significantly upregulated during development between stages 15 and 20, whereas no significant fluctuation of α1 mRNA transcript levels occurs between stages 15 and 28. β3 transcript levels are downregulated at stage 21/22, coinciding with the period of increased Ca2+ spiking observed both in vivo and in vitro (*p < 0.05).
