Shown are the first four tiers of the lateral marginal zone (LMZ) for the left and right sides of the embryo, dorsal to the right (0°). The equatorial circumference of the embryo has been divided into 3° segments, each segment corresponding approximately to a single cell diameter. The fate map is presented with the embryo flattened for simplicity.
