Box and whisker plots showing the median levels of renal markers in patients with unilateral metal-on-metal (MOM) hip resurfacings (n = 23) as compared with those with bilateral MOM artthroplasties (n = 8). There was no significant difference between the two groups as seen from the overlapping 95% confidence intervals of the medians (notches) indicating renal marker levels are not significantly affected by the higher ion level elevations associated with bilateral devices.
