Mak2p and Mak3p control Atf1p-dependent gene transcription in response to peroxide stress. Log-phase cultures of wild-type (CH429), Δmak1 (KZ1535), Δmak2 (VB1530), or Δmak3 (VB1932) cells growing in YES at 30°C were incubated in the presence of 1 mM hydrogen peroxide for the times indicated. Total RNA was extracted and equal quantities were separated by electrophoresis. Northern blots were then probed sequentially by using DNAs specific to the pyp2, gpx1, ctt1, and cdc2 genes.
