Mak2p and Mak3p protect cells against peroxide attack. Exponentially growing cultures of wild-type (CHP429), Δprr1 (JM1516), Δprr1 Δatf1 (JM1546), Δmak2 Δmak3 (JM1930), and Δmak2 Δmak3 Δprr1 (JM2232) cells growing in YES medium at 30°C were incubated in the same medium containing 50 mM hydrogen peroxide. Cells were removed at the times indicated, washed, and plated on YES agar plates to determine the number of viable cells. The data shown represent the mean values from three independent experiments.
