LPS induces cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) relative to the side of exposure. We propose that relative abundance (denoted by font size) of prostaglandin species secreted from each side is due to tissue-specific expression of prostaglandin synthase enzymes (PTGES and AKR1C3). The mechanism by which prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and prostaglandin F (PGF) are released on the amnion side when only the choriodecidual side is treated is not defined (indicated by a question mark).
