The growth rate was measured with 14-day-old CM cultures grown in race tubes. Mean and standard deviation were calculated with results from three replicates.

Percentage of conidia germination and appressorium formation by 24 h. Means and standard errors were calculated from three independent repeats (at least 100 conidia were counted in each repeat).

Percentage of appressoria that underwent cytorrhysis in 35% PEG. Mean and standard deviations were calculated from four replicates. At least 100 appressoria were examined in each repetition.
