Chemical structures of GG and GG-PTX. The GG residue differs slightly based on its position on the polymer, such as its position at the amino or carboxyl termini. For the GG-PTX residue, paclitaxel is covalently conjugated to a carboxylate group of glutamyl–glutamate via an ester linkage. GGNH3+ and GG-PTX each has a charge of −1, GG a charge of −2, and GGCOO− a charge of −3. (Note: each twisted line represents the position to which a preceding or subsequent residue is covalently attached.)
