  • Chemotherapy/radiation patients without documented infection

  • Surgical use = one-time use pre or peri operative

  • Sepsis with evidence of bacterial infection in abdominal fluid (but no culture)

  • Radiographss indicating pneumonia (without TTA and culture)

  • Skin infection

  • Visualization of GI perforation

  • Diagnostic test indicating active infection

  • Negative culture or titers

Non-antimicrobial use of metronidazole:
  • Diarrhea
