Effect of ceramide exposure on embryonic angiogenesis in the chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. (A) Ceramide (50 μM) was applied to the surface of the embryonic chick CAM for 24 hours. The blood vessels are easily detected in the CAM at 0 hour prior to the ceramide exposure. The black box denotes a region of interest to allow for comparisons between the image taken at 0 hour and the one taken 24 hours later. (B) The effect of ceramide exposure on blood vessel length during a 24 hours period of development was quantified and presented in bar graph form (* p < 0.02). Scale bar = 1.0 mm.
