Signal intensity of the visual pathway 1 day after topical administration or intravitreal injection of Mn2+. Signals were scaled based on the internal reference. The intensity of the control ROI was equivalent among the groups, suggestive of the consistency of the measured signals. The intensity of Mn2+-affected sites increased compared with the control sites. There was a variation in the increments among the groups. For topical administration, the 1-M group provided the highest signal increments. Intravitreal injection (1 M in 2 μL) provided signal increments similar to the 1-M topical administration with no statistically significant difference. *P < 0.05 compared with the control ROI.
