Survival of E. coli O157:H7 in PBRE cells. Bacteria were incubated with monolayers of the PBRE cells at 100 MOI for 4 h. Gentamicin (100 μg/ml) was added for 2, 6, or 24 h incubation. Cells were lysed and plated to LB agar to enumerate surviving bacteria. The bacterial CFU recovered after 2 h Gentamicin treatment was set at 100%. The percentage of intracellular bacteria surviving after 6 and 24 h are shown and each value is the mean of three separate experiments.
