More cells that expressed GFAP, a marker of non-myelinating Schwann cells, were found in wild-type than in Lama2−/− sciatic nerves. Transverse sections of sciatic nerves from 4-week-old untreated wild-type (A), untreated Lama2−/− (B, none) and doxycycline-treated Lama2−/− (C, +Dox) mice were stained for GFAP (green) and nuclei (blue). As shown by the representative photos of entire nerve cross-sections, GFAP-positive cells were abundant and distributed throughout the wild-type nerve, but were less abundant in both untreated and doxycycline-treated Lama2−/− nerves.
