Figure 1

LPS injection induces endogenous CecA1 expression in embryos. Semiquantitative RT-PCR analysis was performed in embryo extracts. PCR cycles (30 and 40 rounds) were run with CecA1-specific primers and with Drosophila rp49 as an internal control. The presence of a CecA1-specific PCR product in extracts of both control (−) and LPS-injected (+) embryos after 40 PCR cycles indicate that CecA1 mRNA is present both before and after LPS injection. The concentration of CecA1 mRNA was clearly higher in extracts of LPS-injected embryos than in control embryos after both 30 and 40 PCR cycles, demonstrating that the endogenous CecA1 gene is induced in embryos by LPS injection.
