To any mental event M1, there is a preceding brain physical activity P1, and a preceding mental activity M, which itself is preceded by a brain physical activity P. M → M1 is observable mental phenomena, studied by psychologists, neuropsychiatrists, other neuroscientists and philosophers. P → P1 is causative subtle physical brain activity, studied by neurobiologists and neuroimaging studies. It is necessary to combine both to get a comprehensive picture.
