To any mental event M₁, there is a preceding brain physical activity P₁, and a preceding mental activity M, which itself is preceded by a brain physical activity P. M → M₁ is observable mental phenomena, studied by psychologists, neuropsychiatrists, other neuroscientists and philosophers. P → P₁ is causative subtle physical brain activity, studied by neurobiologists and neuroimaging studies. It is necessary to combine both to get a comprehensive picture.
