Figure 26A, B, C, D. Ultra-short Echo TIme MRI can be used to probe the deepest layer of cartilage, the calcified zone. Conventional MRI shows a signal void from this zone on T1- (A) and PD-weighted images (B), but uTE MRI (C) and UTE MRI with long T2 suppression (D) show signal from the calcified zone.
