Shown are the Illumina read data for the five miRNAs that show a consistent response to song (same direction of change, significant in all three comparisons). "Song" and "Silence" list raw counts from the Illumina read analysis (Additional File 1, Table S4). "Fold Change" is the ratio of Song versus Silence read counts, after the raw counts were normalized within each run to the sum of mapped reads for that sample. Thus a value of > 1 indicates a relative increase in the group exposed to song, and < 1 indicates a decrease. "FDR-P" indicates the result of the Fisher's exact test (FDR adjusted) for this comparison.
