Performance differences of amusic participants (left) and the control participants (right) for the Thai material (speech and musical analogs) between trials selected for large acoustic differences and trials selected for small acoustic differences. Positive values represent better performance when the items of a pair differed strongly on a given acoustic descriptor. Negative values represent better performance when the items of a pair differed only weakly on a given descriptor. Note that controls’ data were presented here only for the sake of completeness as control participants reached relatively high performance levels, thus leaving little room for measuring changes as a function of acoustic differences.
