The morphology of GNE+/+ (A–C) and GNE−/− (D–F) ES cells was followed during differentiation in culture: there is no difference in recently formed EBs, at day 5 of differentiation (A and D). Later in differentiation, GNE−/− ES cells emerge (arrows) and proliferate slower (B and E show EBs 1 day after plating on gelatin coated plates-day 5+1; C and F , at day 5+6).
