Identification of novel ABC transport systems important for bacitracin resistance. A) Homologous pairs of genes encoding putative ABC transport integral membrane (black arrow) and ATP-binding (grey arrow) proteins located close to each other on the chromosome. B) Transcription of both transport systems is strongly up-regulated following treatment with bacitracin (Bac), moenomycin A (Moe) and vancomycin (Van). C) Deletion of the transport systems individually or together increases susceptibility to bacitracin.
