(A) Neonates, nursed by latent mothers, were sacrificed 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 18, or 21 days after birth. Total RNA was prepared from brain, liver, lung, spleen, kidney and salivary glands from individual neonatal mice, with 3 or 4 neonates analyzed at each time point for expression of MCMV IE-1 mRNA by nested RT-PCR with Southern analysis. A sample of the raw data obtained for neonatal kidneys is shown here.
