Intercellular transmission of infection. The spread of infection from the RNA-microinjected cells to neighboring cells was monitored in the presence and absence of neutralizing capsid Ab. Cells were fixed at 24 h after comicroinjection of RNA and dextran. Shown are microinjected and neighboring cells with (A) or without (B) neutralizing Ab. Microinjected cells were identified by FITC-dextran (green), and localization of CVB3 proteins is shown by CVB3 Ab, followed by Alexa 555-conjugated anti-rabbit IgG (red).
