Deletion of the 3′NCR in the FMDV genome decreases IFN-β induction. Comparison of FL, FL (VP3-H56), Δ3′NCR, and (Δ7304-8167)-FMDV O1K transcripts as activators of IFN-β signaling. SK-6 cells were transfected with 20 μg/ml of each RNA or 10 μg/ml of poly(I:C). After 9 h of transfection, the fold induction of IFN-β in RNA-transfected cells above that of mock-transfected cells was determined by RT-qPCR normalized to GAPDH. Error bars show standard deviations between triplicates. Statistical analysis was performed by a one-way analysis of variance with a Bonferroni's post hoc test (*, P < 0.05; **, P < 0.01).
