Gonorrhoeal exudates contain numerous PMNs with associated Gc. Gram stain of the urethral exudate from a male with uncomplicated gonorrhea. Some PMNs associate with single diplococci (thin arrow), while others have multiple adherent and internalized Gc (thick arrow). Note that the majority of PMNs in the exudate are uninfected.
