Activating protein kinase C-β1 restores brain uptake of verapamil in 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD)-dosed rats. Rats received a single intraperitoneal injection of TCDD (5 μg/kg) or corn oil (controls). Two days later, common carotid arteries were perfused with Ringer's solution containing [³H]-verapamil or [³H]-verapamil plus 100 nmol/L 2-deoxyphorbol-13-phenylacetate-20-acetate; brain accumulation of the radiolabeled drug measured and the data expressed as brain-to-perfusate ratio (R_br).
